Parish Ministries


Pastoral Council

The role of the Pastoral Council is to assist the pastor with carrying out the mission of the parish.  This includes strategic planning, analysis and prioritizing the needs of the parish community.  The council also serves as the communicative arm of the parish, by keeping the parishioners informed of business, social and faith initiatives and activities within the parish and community.  The following commisions have representatives on the pastoral council:
Liturgy Commision
The Liturgy Commision assists the pastor in the planning of the liturgical year.  This includes planning prayer services, seasonal decorations in church, penance services, and special services or Masses.  The liturgy Committee consists of members of the parish who volunteer their time and input.  Any member of the parish may be on the committee.
Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
The Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion consists of adult men and women who assist the priests in the distribution of Holy Communion at Eucharistic Liturgies.  Contact:  Rectory, 644-2144.
Extra-ordinary Ministers of the Sick
These ministers bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.  Some Extra-ordinary Ministers assist the Clergy in their Sacarmental visitations.  Contact:  Rectory, 644-2144.
Gift Bearers
Parishioners carry the gifts of bread, wine and the gifts of Treasure to the altar at the Offertory.  Contact:  Rectory, 644-2144.
Adult and Youth Servers
Parishioners who are at least 10 years old or older assist the priests in the Celebration of the Eucharist.  Contact: Rectory, 644-2144.
The Lectors proclaim the Word of God in the Eucharistic Liturgy and other special liturgies.  Lectors are assigned to all Eucharistic Liturgies on Sundays and Holy Days.  Contact:  John Weiler, 422-9400.
The Ministry of Greeter welcomes all to the Liturgy.  Contact:  Rectory, 644-2144.
The Ministry of Usher serves the community of St. Luke's at its Sunday Eucharistic celebrations.  Contact:  Rectory, 644-2144..
Leads the congregation in song for the Sunday Liturgies, as well as all major liturgical celebrations for the parish.  Membership is open to all adults and high school students of the parish and community who love to sing.  The St. Luke's Choir begins in September and continues through the Feast of Corpus Christi, usually in early June.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the Church and Sunday at 9:20 AM before the 10:00 AM Mass.  Additional singers are always welcome.  Contact:  Donna Owen, 308-8195.
Children's Liturgy
This program is designed to let children participate in the Gospel at their age level at the 10 AM Sunday Mass.  Adult leaders are used to prepare activities and present material to assist the children in understanding the message of the Gospel.  Contact:  Felice Nighbor, 962-4776.
Christian Service Commission
The Christian Service Commission involves itself in personal and social justice ministry through direct service, legislative advocacy, and educational programs.  Works with other groups in implementing projects.  Contact:  Dianne Burpee, 645-8066.
Giving Tree
Advent Angels are sponsored once a year at Christmas and a “Tree of Hope” is sponsored at Easter. These are direct service projects which benefit the needy, both in our own area and the inner city. Contact:  Dianne Burpee, 645-8066.
Pro-Life Committee
The Pro Life Committee operates within the guidelines of the Archdiocese Pro Life Committee. It promotes activities on the parish level to increase awareness of and understanding of community issues dealing with abortion, euthanasia and other quality of life issues. Helping Hands
Helping Hands members are those who are willing to help in a concrete way when fellow parishioners need meals or other TLC at times of illness, a family member’s death, or other circumstances (new baby, etc.) when they may need support and have no one close to help them. Contact: Dianne Burpee, 645-8066.
Bread for Life
Bread for Life sells bread the 2nd weekend of (most) every month after each Mass. Bread for Life members work together with Helping Hands to provide support for those grieving the loss of a family member. Proceeds from the bread for life sales go towards helping our parishioners in their time of need. Contact: Paula & Glenn Burkhalter, 781-6153.
Finance Commision
The finance commision assists the pastor and deals with all matters of the parish finances.  It is responsible for the parish's accountability, maintenance, projects and overall stewardship.  The commision also organizes the yearly Annual Catholic Appeal in the spring of each year.  The appeal supports the many charitable organizations of the Archdiocese.  Each year the commision also administers a Stewardship program in the fall.  Stewardship is a vital part of our Catholic heritage and our challange to live a Christian life.  Time, Talent and Treasure cards are filled in by each parishioner allowing them to renew commitments to various ministries and organizations and financial support.  The finance committee meets the third Saturday of each month in the rectory.  Contact:  Tom Kubsh, 963-1626.
Christian Education & Formation Commision
The Christian Education and Formation Commision promotes education programs for parishioners.  The purpose of these programs is to provide opportunities for for continuing religious education and spiritual growth of our parish.
Adult Education
Help plan, organize and publicize adult religious education programs for parishioners.  Maintain a resource center in the foyer of the Church which has a variety of materials for adult faith development.  Contact:  Al Dowling, 781-2603.
Annual retreat for all men of the parish at the White House Retreat Center.  Contact: Paul Metzger, 647-4640.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a program for adults interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and prepares adults for sacramental initiation into the Church.  Sponsors are needed to accompany candidates for the sessions and make them feel "at home".  Parishioners are also invited to join the RCIA team to contribute to the meetings and presentations.  This program works in union with the staffs of our cluster parishes.  Contact:  Al Dowling, 781-2603.
Youth Faith Formation
Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion for all ages.  Contact: Ann Deer, 645-4754 or Charlene Talir, 920-1089.
